Is Food Triggering your Seasonal Allergies?
This time of year, especially in the Nashville area, many of us suffer from seasonal allergies. Did you know that there are certain foods that correlate with certain pollens in the area? You may actually be eating foods that are making your allergies worse! We are here to help!
Here are foods that cross reaction with pollen in the environment. If you know you are allergic to these pollens, it may be a good idea to limit the foods commonly cross reactive to help reduce allergy and histamine symptoms during high pollen times.
Birch Pollen
Apples, Pears, Cherries, Carrots, Celery, Hazelnuts, Almonds, Kiwi, Peaches, Plums
Grass Pollen
Oranges, Melons, Tomatoes, Peaches, Celery, White potatoes
Ragweed Pollen
Bananas, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Melons, Sunflower seeds, Chamomile tea, Echinacea
If you struggle with seasonal allergies but are not sure if you are allergic to specific pollens, it may be a good idea to get tested! There are also some great natural remedies that can often help with more mild symptoms such as consuming local bee pollen or honey, taking a supplement to help process or calm histamines such as quercetin or an herbal blend, and of course, boosting your immune system with healthy diet and lifestyle!
Some great foods to add into your diet to help with reducing histamine responses during this higher pollen time include: Onions, Pineapple, Parsley, Blueberries, Olive oil, Broccoli, Grapes
