The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a new therapeutic tool at Sanctuary Functional Medicine used by our Integrative Therapist Casey Kania.
SSP is a frequency based listening therapy designed to help regulate the nervous system so that we can improve healing outcomes.
Subconsciously, the nervous system is always looking for cues of safety form other people and the environment. With Chronic Illness causing PTSD like symptoms in the body, we are thrown into a fight or flight state. Due to this heightened state, the body has a harder time interpreting cues of safety and therefore cannot activate the parasympathetic response as effectively on its own.
We need to activate the parasympathetic nervous system in order to properly lower inflammation, stimulate detox, and regulate the bodies’ functions. When our nervous system is regulated, it’s easier to sleep, eat, digest, concentrate,
communicate, and participate in meaningful relationships with others. We can better respond to difficult situations and move past them instead of reacting and getting “stuck” in them.
