Reduce Your Symptoms
Live with More Freedom.
The weight of chronic illness can break you. The symptoms are bad enough, but the unanswered questions only add to your burden. Why are you sick? What will it take to get the root of the issue once and for all? But when you ask these questions, your doctor just refers you to yet another specialist, who tells you nothing more can be done.
So you’re stuck trying to manage your illness, along with everything else that comes with it –
Doctor’s appointments
Insurance
Medical bills
Stress and isolation
Inability to do the things you love
Avoiding your family and friends
But the fact is, chronic illness doesn’t define you. You are more than your diagnosis.
At Sanctuary Functional Medicine, we understand how chronic illness affects every aspect of your life. Our Intensive Program is designed to get to the bottom of your symptoms so that you can restore the health and vitality you deserve.

About Dr. Potter, Functional Medicine Specialist
Dr. Eric Potter, M.D. is a Vanderbilt-trained medical doctor with more than 22 years of experience treating patients with complex symptoms.
He holds board certifications in both internal medicine and pediatrics, making him uniquely suited to care for your entire family.
Sanctuary Functional Medicine is proud to offer both in-person visits and distance visits via secure Zoom.
Our Comprehensive Evaluation Strategy
Functional medicine is science-based medicine. As a certified functional medicine practitioner, Dr. Potter uses the latest scientific research to treat patients, without the confines of conventional medicine.
To truly understand the root causes of your health condition, we need as complete a picture of you as possible. Our comprehensive evaluation is designed to do just that.
We use conventional lab testing to determine your blood cell counts, metabolic profile, cholesterol status, and autoimmune markers. We also use a variety of functional medicine tests, including, but not limited to:
Organic Acid Testing (OAT)
Hormone Panels
Mold Toxicity Testing
Organic acids are chemicals produced by your body as a part of important cellular functions. The OAT can tell us whether one of these cellular processes is compromised. (OAT)
Your hormones are the chemical messengers of your body. When your hormone levels are out of balance, your cells can’t communicate properly. We use a variety of methods to re-balance your hormones.
Toxic mold can wreak havoc on your body. The problem is, mold is the last thing most people think of when it comes to potential causes of their symptoms. We perform thorough testing to rule out the possibility of mold toxicity.
Lyme & Co-Infection Testing
Heavy Metal Testing
Vitamin & Mineral Testing
With tick populations exploding in many areas of the country, so have Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. Standard tests for these diseases can leave you misdiagnosed or undiagnosed for years. We partner with specialty labs to get you accurate results.
Most symptoms of heavy metal toxicity appear disguised as other issues. It’s not uncommon for seemingly unrelated issues to be caused by a toxic accumulation of heavy metals. We identify if they’re causing a problem for you and remove them from your body safely and gently.
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies are responsible for hundreds of medical conditions. We’ll perform thorough testing to identify which ones you may be lacking. In many cases, you may only need simple dietary changes to correct your deficiencies.
Mitochondrial Testing
Genetic Testing & Interpretation
Allergy & Food Sensitivity Testing
Mitochondria are the powerhouses of your cells. If they’re not functioning properly, every process in your body can be affected, including your energy, thinking, digestion, and recovery from illness. Once identified, mitochondrial support can be life-changing.
Errors in methylation can impair your body’s ability to repair DNA, eliminate toxins, produce energy, and balance brain chemistry. We use specialized genetic testing to uncover mutations that might be negatively affecting your health.
Your food and environment should nourish you. But allergies and sensitivities make it difficult to enjoy life. We use functional testing to uncover what foods and substances your body may be reacting to, and develop a plan to normalize your response.

How The Intensive Program Works
The Intensive Program is individualized to each patient, but our overall strategy is the same.
Get to know you and your health
Perform in-depth evaluations.
Report findings & create a plan.
Provide implementation support.
Your Intensive Program starts with a 90-minute visit. Dr. Potter and our staff listen and evaluate your medical and family history, as well as your lifestyle, genetics, nutrition, emotions, spirit, and healthcare preferences. We believe everything is connected, so we need to understand your whole story.
Now it’s time to level up your care. We’ll work with you to come up with a testing strategy. The results from your tests help us uncover the root cause(s) of your symptoms. Lab tests can also identify “silent dysfunctions” in your body. Early detection allows us to intervene before symptoms arise.
Once the evaluations are complete, Dr. Potter walks you through the findings in two separate case review visits. We use all the information we’ve gathered from you to create your personalized health restoration plan. You’ll walk away knowing exactly what you need to do to start changing your health.
Your health restoration plan may involve changes to your routine, lifestyle, and environment. Your nurse practitioner meets with you to answer any questions you have and to review your detailed supplement protocol.
Eating for health.
Follow up.
Tweak as you go.
Build a long-term relationship.
Food is the foundation of health. No health restoration plan would be complete without dietary changes. Our nutritionist meets with you twice via telemedicine to recommend an optimal diet for your health condition. She is also available to answer your questions along the way.
We follow up with you over two extended appointments to evaluate your progress and adjust your protocol if needed. Dr. Potter may order additional lab tests to confirm you’re on the right track. As an Intensive Program member, you also have access to two flexible, 30-minute visits to address any surprises or immediate needs.
We understand your treatment plan may need tweaks that don’t require a full visit. Communicate directly with your Sanctuary care team if you have any questions or concerns that arise between your follow-up visits.
Given the complexity of chronic illnesses, some patients need a plan that extends beyond our 9- to 11-month program. Should you feel longer-term treatment is right for you, Dr. Potter will discuss your transition to our Bridge Program. Once you complete active treatment, you graduate to our ongoing Empowered Life Program.

FAQs
Who is the Intensive Program for?
Our Intensive Program serves both adults and children with chronic illnesses. Dr. Potter holds board certifications in internal medicine and pediatrics, each of which requires countless hours of practice and continuing medical education. The double certification has given Dr. Potter the unique privilege of caring for multiple generations in a single family. It also allows him to see common threads among family members that could provide clues to genetic and environmental stressors.
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes. After your first in-person visit, we can care for you from a distance using secure telehealth Zoom visits. Patients traveling from a distance are seen in-office once a year.
After your initial lab visit, Dr. Potter orders follow-up lab work and therapies so they can be completed in your home state. Future visits may be accessed through a secure video forum or by phone appointments. Dr. Potter, IFMCP MD, is licensed in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and Minnesota. But our initial in-person visit allows ongoing care in all 50 states.
How long is the Intensive Program?
We ask for a commitment of 9 to 11 months in our Intensive Program. But the length of your active treatment will depend on the complexity of your illness as well as your compliance. If you and your Sanctuary care team feel that longer treatment is needed, we may ask you to continue with our Bridge Program, which includes another 3 hours of visit time with your providers.
Can you guarantee results?
We’ve learned from years of practice that addressing the root cause(s) of an illness can bring about profound, positive changes to patients’ health. Because the functional medicine approach also requires time, dedication, and engagement, results will vary from patient to patient.
Can I stop my treatment once I feel better?
No. Stopping your treatment too early could derail your journey to optimal health. Unless you’re experiencing an emergency, we advise you to complete your full course of treatment. After we have guided you back to a healthier life, we teach you how to maintain that health with the fewest therapies possible.
Can I use my insurance to pay for the Intensive Program?
Yes and no. If you have a traditional insurance policy, you may be able to get partial reimbursement. And much of your lab costs can often be covered in-network. At your request, we’ll provide you with a superbill for all services provided.
Please review your “Explanations of Benefits” for your healthcare plan and contact your insurance provider with any questions about your coverage. Sanctuary Functional Medicine cannot bill your insurance company directly, as we are out-of-network for all insurance plans. Please note that payment is required at the time of service.
You Deserve a More Abundant Life.

how many testimonials do you want here? short or medium length?
Any length is fine. I can use just a portion if it’s too long. Three testimonials would be great.
