We must start with understanding the concept of a worldview. Put simply, a worldview is one’s way of looking at reality. It is how a person understands and what he or she believes about the basics of what is real. We can choose to view reality from either a Biblical worldview or from a secular worldview. The secular worldview is simply viewing the world solely from a human viewpoint.
A comparison of the Biblical and secular worldview, beginning with the former, will elucidate how different they are. The Biblical worldview begins with God and includes the supernatural realm. A Secular worldview begins with man and usually only accepts the physical and rational aspects of reality. The Biblical worldview views the person as a whole and integrated while the secular usually views the person as separate parts, not fully interdependent. The Biblical includes spiritual perception whereas the secular stops at physical perception and maybe intuition. The Biblical worldview not only begins with God, but also centers on God, owing allegiance to Him. The Secular worldview centers on humans or humanity and naturally owes allegiance to humanity. From this belief, the secular worldview holds that knowledge, technology, and money only need time in order to solve all of man’s problems.
The Biblical worldview naturally orients upward towards God and outward toward fellow humanity. The secular naturally orients inward in asking what can you do for me. In regards to values, the Biblical holds to absolutes while the secular holds to relative values.
