When mold toxicity strikes you or your family, you often feel very alone. No one seems to understand. Friends may back away from spending time together when they hear about your random symptoms. Family may urge you to just push through or stop complaining so much. Doctors pass you around from one office to another offering few answers. Even if you find a doctor that listens long enough to diagnose mold toxicity, finding a lawyer to help fight insurance companies, landlords, or contractors may lead to despair.
Apparently Texas has a new legal light in Kristina Baehr, opening Just Well Law in Austin, Texas. A friend shared a CNBC link in which the local news interviewed attorney Baehr about her own experience with mold toxicity. Her family including her children were enjoying a normal life until she began experiencing a variety of unexplained symptoms. She had a new onset of migraines in adulthood, weird rashes, and disruptive fatigue. Then her children began having behavioral issues and developmental problems. Doctor visits did not give her any solid answers and even suggested autism for one of her children.
Ultimately, they discovered that faulty flashing around a chimney by a roofer was allowing water to silently drip into their walls over a few years. That steady supply of water dripping encouraged mold to grow. While the video clip below did not mention mold species names, they are confident that this was the root cause of their health decline. Since moving, they have seen improvements in their health.
Kristina, as a lawyer, knew that a mistake had led to their losing both health and their home, but insurance would not cover their home’s mold problem. Besides recovering herself and helping her kids to recover, she wanted to help others face the legal and financial battles that sometimes follows mold toxicity. She opened Just Well Law in Austin, Texas to help others. She is putting her Princeton and Yale Law training as well as her experience against big tech and big pharma as a trial lawyer to good use.
Having just learned of Kristina’s law firm, I can’t vouch for her abilities since no patients have used her for their mold claims yet, but I am encouraged to know that she is on our patient’s side. We need all the help we can get in helping more and more patients overcome their mold toxicity. We can guide and treat medically, but when our patients faces thousands of dollars in remediation repair bills which insurance or a faulty contractor won’t cover, a lawyer may be needed. Knowing that they can enlist someone who has walked in their shoes will help them know that they are not crazy. Mold toxicity is real and others want to help. They are not alone after all.
Thanks to the CNBC news team for reporting on this story. They are correct that there is more to a bad storm than destroyed homes. The less damaged homes can lead to mold issues down the road if repairs are not done correctly.
