“Rest… It can be an elusive concept in today’s frenetic world. Many things interfere with rest: newborns, toxins, stress, anxiety, illness, schedules, LIFE! And this time of year it seems to get worse. Despite its elusive nature, rest remains vital to our well-being and health. Both the ancient wisdom of the Bible and modern Science attest to the necessity of Rest. It is woven into the structure of the Seven Day week. After all God’s creative acts at the beginning, He RESTED. He was demonstrating a pattern for us to follow. At the same time, the Scientific American article below attests to the fact that Rest actually has the potential to make you more productive while making your life more enjoyable. So, rest is related to our ability to create, produce and enjoy.
With 5 days until Christmas,” I simply encourage you to start with at least 5 minutes of rest at regular intervals throughout your day. Take 5 minutes to clear your mind of the daily clutter and fill it with the truth of eternity while you indulge in some deep breaths and find a comfortable position. See if it doesn’t at least help you inch toward a healthier more abundant life – an abundant life patterned after the wisdom woven into the created order.
