Thinking through when relatives deny that their house could make you sick.
Moldy Realities That You Need To Know
The extended family and in-laws are putting up with our new life of avoiding mold, but they don’t believe that could get in the way of holiday celebrations. ‘Our house can’t be moldy’ is repeated over and over. Maybe they are right, and we are just paranoid. On the other hand, if you have already visited and reacted there, just say no. But you could also try an ERMI test to prove one way or another that there’s mold in that house. If you decide to go to the house, here are a few ideas to limit the impact on your health.
Atomizing the home with Thieves Oil may get you through: it does smell like Christmas you know. You may choose to spend the entire night at a hotel or other family member’s house, only spending one or two hours at a time in the moldy, suspect house.
Bringing along one or two portable air filters may be enough to limit exposure in some cases. This is not perfect but does lower the mold exposure like sunscreen on a sunny day. Regardless, don’t be an ostrich with your head in the sand, hoping it will go away and not cause any problems. If no one else will look out for you over the holidays, you got to look after your own health
