Mom. You have most likely have prepared and dreamed of this moment. Your baby is finally here! You might be very nervous and anxious about caring for this precious little one. That is normal! Humans have been giving birth and raising children for millennia. We know it can be overwhelming but with the Lord’s help, your social support around you and all of us here at Sanctuary we will all work together to support you.
If you haven’t found out already, that little one can be very high demand. It can feel quite overwhelming. But it is also true that your hormones are changing rapidly. Your stress level might be high, and you can’t take care of that precious baby if you don’t find some time to take care of yourself as well. It is imperative to find time to take care of your mind, body and spirit.
Are you finding time to center yourself with Christ and ask Him to guide and lead you? At high demanding times in life like this it is normal to throw up those popcorn prayers through the day, but are you finding time to sit in the quiet with Him and ask Him what He has for you today and ask Him to lead you through the day?
Also are you finding quiet time to decompress? It probably won’t be hours, but even a few minutes away will help. Your mind and body need a break. Take that bubble bath or even better take a nap while baby is napping! The dishes will wait.
Is your support system wanting you to go and do and be active? It is okay to say no! They will understand that you and the little one are learning how to be a family and it is okay to ask for a rain check. But the flip side is many of us have people around us that want to help. LET THEM! I literally told people we didn’t need meals when I had my babies. Why? The only answer I can even think of is that I was young and dumb. If you have support around them accept the help and graciously say thank you!
