Contradicting the World
While we can always trust God’s Word to provide truth, sometimes profound truths arise in the oddest of places. While listening to a lecture from The Great Courses on music history, the instructor emphasized that our current view of music arises from a Greek humanistic mindset. He contrasted this with the early church’s view of music as focusing outwardly on worship and ritual. In these verses, we see how God’s Word encourages a similar contradiction to the world’s view of knowledge and wisdom. The Christian is encouraged to seek God for wisdom by trusting in Him first. Rather than leaning on our own knowledge, we are instructed to look to Him.
Of course we want straight paths for our lives. Of course we want healing for our flesh. Of course we want refreshment for our bones. To get these we have to forego the young child’s pride found in the phrase “I can do it myself”.
At Sanctuary, we begin with God when looking for ways in which to restore health in our patients. This does not mean that we trash our medical journals and textbooks however. We simply begin with looking to our Father and asking Him to provide through whatever means He chooses what our patients need. Then we study and dig and research for knowledge and wisdom from others with the goal of blessing our patients and glorifying God. When we find answers and see health restoration, we then thank God and give Him the credit. We work hard for His glory and for our patient’s blessing, but it is His working through us which produces the intended results.
May your seeking Him first produce fruits of healing and refreshment for you today.
