As many of you are aware, I can be skeptical of the government at times. However in this case I look forward to the research that this government based study may provide in the coming years.
The National Institutes of Health are moving forward and enrolling 9 and 10 year olds in a tracking study to monitor how various environmental influences affect their health through their teenage years.
While environmental influence research can be extremely difficult for a multitude of reasons, observational studies like this will at least open further avenues of research effort as the results come in over the ensuing years. These studies can only provide correlations and not definitive causations.
With this research project, children can be evaluated for the effects of concussion injuries, dietary influences, toxic exposures, and more.
I just hope they make the data available for others to utilize as they usually do. Obviously my skepticism reminds me that this information could be used for political purposes.
At Sanctuary functional medicine as with other functional medicine doctors like myself, we hope that research projects like this can help people ultimately live healthier lives. Blessings
