We fuss and fume. We fight and flurry. We push and shove thinking that our success comes from the American way of hard work. Whether in church, at work, or at home, hard work comes out at the top of most lists of how to get ahead.
Here we see that if our heads are to prosper, it is through righteousness. Righteousness comes through looking to the Righteous One and following Him. Through righteousness, we can expect blessing.
In contrast, wickedness in one’s mouth does nothing but attempt to hide violence. It takes the evil of violence and tries to avoid judgement of its wickedness.
With the blessing of righteousness, even the memory of the righteous ones leaves blessings in their wakes. Righteousness and blessing continue to multiply long after their moment of action.
In contrast, the very name of the wicked dies over and over as it rots. It produces a stench rather than a fruit. It continues to harm.
May we choose righteousness and repent of wickedness individually and as a nation.
